Je suis époustouflé par l'engouement de ce défi! Un niveau de taré(surtout moi) , plus de 500 pages de fil de discute et un topic de remerciement hyper long qui par en vrille! Bon ca c'est bien passé à part stef qui a fait son méchant parce que je ne sais plus qui a pété de travers! J'adore ce genre de défis hors normes!
Bon la prochaine fois c'est ingwie qui pète son bt ! Ca va ièche encore!

Maintenant et ça aussi ça me regarde, y'a des gratteux comme Olive Olmos, Ludo, Tris, Nino, Stef, Jlambert, etc... qui ne feront JAMAIS quelque chose à chier, de mauvais, quelque soit le genre de défi, et là on rentre dans quelque chose de +subjectif peut-être, mais une note en technique avec ces gabarits là, reste une note haute, pareil en touché/feeling et souvent le son est très bon aussi.

Je suis scié de retrouvé des defi comme celui de zamzamx, omennardi, Cryles a des places aussi basses
C'est vrai, ceux que tu cites ont fait un truc plus qu'honorable, mais je pense personnellement qu'il manque peut être la petite étincelle, le petit plus...
Je ne parle pas pour moi, ce serait pas top, mais quand tu écoutes Allan, Ross, proutos, Tristan (les 1er quoi) , etc... je trouve personellement qu'il y a un truc qui sonne plus "pro" que les autres, et je pense que c'est peut être ce qui a joué, même inconsciemment. Par contre Stef méritait beaucoup mieux; il y en qui ne se feront jamais à l'idée de la guitare synthé je vois.
Je suis d'accord, perso quand je t'ecoute ainsi que Magnus, Allan, Strato, Youri, Proutos, Ross et d'autres je sens bien qu'au dela de mes phrases (a parfaire egalement bien evidemment, ne voyez la aucune pretention de ma part) il y a une mise en place, une proprete dans le son a travailler enormement pour moi... _________________ http://www.myspace.com/free4one

But then, i don't really think that this or that is harder or easier, i just don't think it is relevant of the same approach. I don't think you would find that many licks in Django Reinhardt's music for instance
In fact, i dunno if it is something good or not, but in School here, the teachers would ask you to sing, and play the stuff at the same time. That way you would avoid playing licks, and just play what's inside of you. But i find it quite hard to do in a good way, and i'm being said that it's gonna take years.....and years.......and guess what? years again
I agree with you on that to make good improvisation, then you have to be part of the music.
But you can be, and have to be, part of the music at many different levels.
You will, or at least I do, always feel different when you play your own music, that music is you and you don’t have to make it yours as you would have if you played a classical composition, for example.
Singing what you play is always a good thing, and it is the same for all sorts of music.
But what you have to ask yourself is, are playing what you are singing or are you singing what you are playing? I mean are the fingers following the brain (singing) or are the brain following the fingers?
Almost all people are singing what they are playing and not vice versa.
And why would you avoid playing licks because you sing it? You will sing licks just as much as you play them. There simply are no ways of playing/improvising music without playing licks. Playing familiar things that you know will work is also playing licks, even if you tie them together different every time. A lick is a lick even if I do variations on it.
Yes, I do find loads of licks in Django Reinhardt’s music, patterns that come back and are use a lot, arpeggios patterns that comes back, note choices that come back over certain chord changes and so on. Everybody has things that comes back in there playing that makes them sound the way they do.
No one plays licks free music, the only one doing that is a kid picking up an instrument for the first time.
It is what you do with the licks and ideas that you have that make it music.

What you say is interesting Magnus, and quite true...I think thats where my problem is, of course i know other guitar players and I know some of their licks but I don't have those licks in my finger ready to come out in every situation, so sometimes even if i can feel something would sound great here I can not manage to play it...it gets very fustrating sometimes.
Actually Hougo I've been working all morning on your BT Querida and nothing came out, not one single nice melody, pfff I am so pissed off this morning...anyway I'm sharing my fustration with you guys ....the only good thing I managed to do is an acoustic rythm guitar to go with it.....The problem is deeper in this case I have no inspiration....
Actually, i don't quite agree with Magnus, but heh, that's just me.
I see a real difference between the vocabulary Django would use (and i begin to have a little clue about it, since it's the music i've most analyzed harmonically) and what licks are.
Licks are far too often sentences that people will recitate, while Django would use this or that sentence because he heard it i think. I mean, just listening to his different improvizations, and they are many, gives a real clue about how much he had to say, since they're all really different.
According to me, arpeggios are not licks either. The way you shape arpeggios may make them become licks though.
About the Querida bt, i'm already glad that you tried to play on it
Thanks to you. Although i'm in no position to advice, i would still suggest you put your guitar away for a few minutes, listen to the backing track, and try to sing on it. I think it's a good way to free ourselves from all the knowledge, diagrams we've learnt on guitar (and that sometimes tends to jail us)
Magnus, i hope i'll be lucky enough to hear you play jazz one day! =)
(oh and btw, I found your sentence very interesting "do you actually sing what you play, or the contrary?". That's a tough one. I just dunno heh. But whatever it is, i still think it's a good way to make it because it makes you feel more what you're musically saying, be it melodically or rythmically no?)
